This week I heard a young dancer say; I eat really insanely healthy and train like crazy but nothing changes at all in my body. Should I eat even less and train even more, that is really not going to work for me. I don't know how to handle this anymore.

No pain no gain

The dancer, let's call her Mira for the sake of simplicity, had grown up with the attitude that the harder you work the better; No pain, no gain. If you have enormous muscle pain and you get up in the morning like a grandma or grandpa, then you did well. A month ago she had looked in the mirror and thought that in order to get better, she could lose a few kilos. Technology also really needed to improve in her eyes. Online, Mira had found a new diet for the nutrition part. She also bought weights, and downloaded a fitness app to give her body some extra training.

The diet and app were really great. She had been very strict and had maintained this regime well, but now she looked in the mirror again and actually saw no difference, mega frustrating. After thinking for a while, the conclusion was that she wasn't going to keep this up any longer, she didn't really know what she could do anymore.

Strict = unsustainable

Until now, these types of crash diets, in combination with extra training, had always helped, but they could not be maintained for long. Mira always felt a bit weakened instead of stronger after a short strict period. If what she had always done no longer worked, then things really had to change. Still looking for help, even if it feels like failure.

Doctor, dietician, psychologist and health coach

But what are you looking for then? A doctor, a dietitian, a psychologist? I have dealt with all 3 a lot and they have all helped me in their own field. Because it is different for everyone, I really speak from my own experience when I say that my health coach helped me the most, but also ensured long-term results, which can be maintained to this day, and that is what you want to. If you have been helped yourself by a dietician or one of the other experts, that is only great. I am of course in favor of a health coach because I see that this works, including myself.

Teamwork makes the dream work

A health coach addresses the root cause of a problem and guides you in a holistic way, looking at all areas of life, not just eating and training. A health coach is someone who supports you in the process, listens to you and helps you implement the adjustments you want to make, the new steps you want to take, you are a team together. A health coach listens and helps you set realistic goals. If things don't turn out the way you planned, you make adjustments. You are in control and learn how you can continue to live a nice and healthy life without the eternal yo-yoing.
