Sucks, there's already someone in the studio that you wanted. You know you look thinner in that spot. Now you have to go to a different place and you know that mirror makes you look fatter. Just take something oversized out of your bag, then you can still hide things. Come earlier next time to be able to stand in the right mirror spot because now your thoughts only go to how you can get rid of the necessary kilos instead of enjoying the lesson.

Those mirrors can drive you crazy, but as a dancer you can't avoid them. And then double seeing that others look great, terrible. You would prefer to hang a curtain in front of it so you don't have to look at yourself; I've done that several times.

You can't ban mirrors, but you can deal with them in a different way. I now see that I am more than just my outside. And by starting with the following points you change the relationship with the mirror little by little:

1. Look in a different way

If you look all the time at what you don't like about your body, it will indeed be tough. Try to use the mirror as something to learn from. Watch your movements and the beautiful lines you create. Also look at the whole picture and not just the parts you don't like.

2. Don't compare. Everybody is different

Don't look at someone else all the time wishing you looked like that too. You are different and there is nothing wrong with that. You are also often much stricter with yourself than with someone else. You don't look at someone else as you look at yourself.

3. Don't shy away from your body

I was an expert at covering my body. While you shouldn't become obsessed with constantly looking at your body, you shouldn't avoid it either. Occasionally stand at the front of class and slowly remove excess clothing. This isn't nice at first, I know. But do it, you will feel more connected to your body.

4. Accept that there are less days

Everyone has days when you feel a little less in your skin. You don't feel like looking at yourself in the mirror at all and certainly not in a leotard. Check on days like this: is it really about what you see in the mirror or is there another emotion underlying the negative feelings? Perhaps you can do something about that so that you shift the power away from your body image and allow yourself to work on the actual problem.

This is a good start. Do you need more help, email me, I'm here for you and know what it's like.
