Hi,I am Saskia.

Health coach, author and speaker.

I am a highly experienced professional in the world of dance and health. After successfully completing my dance education, I pursued my passion for dance in New York for five years. There, I not only danced but also taught and co-managed one of the largest dance studios.

I am certified as a Simonson jazz instructor, Pilates instructor, National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBCHWC), IIN Health Coach (with multiple specializations), and elementary school teacher. This diverse background enables me to guide dancers in the best possible way.

My many years of experience in the dance world have given me extensive knowledge and insight into the challenges dancers face, allowing me to coach you to your fullest potential.

In addition to my coaching, I also published my first book, Spitz!, in 2022, which was translated into English in 2024.

Dancing in New York City

FICA, our studio cat op Dance Space inc, 622 Broadway

I was fortunate enough to do my internship year in New York City, and I stayed on after that. Since I was a young girl, my ultimate dream was to become a dancer and dance in New York. I was willing to do whatever it took to make that dream come true—and I did it. I spent five years dancing and teaching in New York. It was such a relief! I was judged solely on my dance skills, and how I looked? No one cared about that. Except for me, of course, because that kind of issue doesn’t just go away. My tremendous perseverance, relentless positivity, down-to-earth, humorous Dutch-Zeeland spirit, and my willingness to do whatever it took to achieve my goals gave me, despite everything, the most beautiful period of my life. Unfortunately, my disordered eating habits and negative body image cast a dark cloud over this amazing time.”

My vision

‘Dancers and other young athletes and performers rely heavily on the support staff of their school, club, or company. The fear of rejection—and the possible end of their career—always plays a role in that relationship. And because appearance factors into evaluations, these young people far too often develop eating disorders, which they keep hidden from their coaches. That’s why it’s essential that they receive expert and independent guidance for both their physical and mental health. Only then can they perform at their best in a healthy way.’.

Happy with my body

There came a day in my life when I was sitting with my doctor, and they told me I was depressed, that we had to do something about this misery once and for all. In that moment, I felt it was now or never—my very last chance. And I am so grateful that I seized it with both hands. I now have a life completely free from any form of disordered eating. To this day, I am amazed at how easily and joyfully I live in this new reality—one I never dreamed could be possible. I look happily into every mirror I pass, go out to eat as often as I can, and now exercise with genuine enjoyment, which is nothing short of a miracle because it wasn’t always this way. And that reflection? I look at it with love and am genuinely happy with what I see.

Fun Facts About Me

New York is my ultimate favorite city. I still visit all the major studios there every year just to soak up that amazing vibe again. I’d love to spend the whole day watching dance in a theater, preferably rehearsals, because that’s where the magic really happens. For me, Jacob’s Pillow is the most magical place on earth. I could watch Alvin Ailey’s Revelations night after night and never get tired of it. I still love to cut the neckline off every sweater to create a big boat neck, just like the dancer in Flashdance. My favorite dance companies are Alvin Ailey, Hubbard Street Dance Company, and NDT.
